#MeMeditating – Dan

Welcome to our new #MeMeditating series! Hear from our students as they share their real-life stories of how Vedic Meditation supported them during lockdown.

– April 2020 –

I’m Dan.

I’ll have been meditating for six years this June.

The idea of meditation had fascinated me for years — mostly because I was interested in spiritual development and personal growth. I tried many different forms of meditation but none of them really did it for me — until I discovered Vedic Meditation.

Since I started to meditate regularly I’m calmer, happier, and more stable. I feel less compelled to try and control every aspect of my life, and more prepared to see how things turn out. I also feel very strongly that I’m undertaking an important spiritual journey towards a more compassionate and awakened state.

I’m spending lockdown alone in a 2nd-floor flat on the border of Brighton and Hove, just a few minutes’ walk from the beach. In many ways, I’m actually enjoying the time alone. I’m a freelance writer so my working life hasn’t changed. Now, however, I feel I have more time to really luxuriate in my meditation. I’m also surrounded by mountains of books and movies to keep me occupied.

For me during this time, meditation is helping me to stay calm and to live, as far as possible, in the present moment. It’s helping me to be patient and accepting while looking forward to the day I can see my friends and loved ones again.
